1. How did the concept of the song come about?
Royale: Actually my manager Ed kind of sparked up the idea. We were on the phone one morning discussing future endeavors as far as what single or type of single to put out next. And Ed just brought it up and said we need to make something for like the ordinary person. Someone that puts in work doing that 9 to 5 trying to make it. I just grabbed that concept and added my thoughts to it, how I saw it from my point of view and started moving forward to bring it to life.
2. Was there a certain process you took in creating this song that was different from any other time?
Royale: Actually the process of creating "Workin" was very different. I wrote the first verse before I did anything. There was no beat or anything, just me writing rhymes down on my notepad in my iPhone. After finishing the first verse, I then started working on the beat. The hook and the third verse came after I finished making the beat. It was just weird because usually the beat comes first and then the lyrics, but this time I was cooking everything piece by piece sort of speak. Creatively it was a challenge but myself and my team were satisfied with the turn out.
3. The beat and the song writing was done by yourself?
Royale: Absolutely. Everything I’m putting out right now, as far as the creative aspect of it, I’m doing myself. The production, the songwriting, recording etc. is done by yours truly. All but the mastering of the project.
4. Was that a difficult process?
Royale: Of course it was. It’s very difficult creating music. "Good" music. And above everything else I am my worst critic. However, success does not come easy, and just because something is a challenge does not mean one should not try to overcome it. There's beauty in accepting a challenge, and it’s the face of sweet victory, self-pride, and the sense of achievement.
5. How long did it take to bring this out to the world?
Royale: To get everything done and have "Workin" administratively and sonically ready it took about 4 months. And that’s what most people don't understand, a lot goes into releasing songs to the public on a major scale when you're moving independently. But the beauty in independence is freedom right; and freedom as an artist is very important. You can't box in how someone is trying to express themselves on how "they" felt!" It just makes no sense!
6. When creating the song were you focused more on what you want people to take from this song? Or was it more you just trying to be as creative as you could be?
Royale: When creating the song I was more focused on the creative aspect of it. All my energy was pointed towards what I wanted to say, how I was going to say it; and did everything, the words, the tones of the melodies, everything stick with the concept I was going for. I just wanted it to be true.
7. Now that people have heard it, what message would you like to see people take from the song?
Royale: I just want people to just put their best foot forward. Everyone has a struggle, and regardless of how bad you may think you have it someone has it worse. You got to work to achieve anything in life and the testament is to be the best at whatever you do. If you're a janitor, be the best janitor, if you're flipping burgers at McDonald, be the best at that. Whatever it is. And there's always going to be someone hating, someone laughing, or talking crazy. But that’s just how it is, people love to breed negativity, they love to see others lose. But if you're working, every day, working to be the best at whatever, how can anyone say you're losing?
8. Is there anything else, which you’re working on at the moment?
Royale: Yea right now as I am promoting and working on my single 'Workin," I am also in the studio putting some finishing touches on my self-produced LP "BAMN" and my follow up single after "Workin."
9. Is there going to be a video for your new single "Workin?"
Royale: Yes there is! We are actually rolling that out after we drop the single. We know who’s going to shoot it and where we're going to shoot it. Just have to set a date making sure schedules don’t conflict. But there's definitely a video coming out, so be on the lookout for that, it’s going to be crazy!
10. If people want to connect with you on social media, where can they find you?
Royale: Real easy to catch me on social media, on Facebook you can find me at facebook.com/ArtistRoyale, on Twitter you can find me at Twitter.com/ImRoyale, and on Instagram you can catch me at instagram.com/ImRoyale.
